Work in Australia With the Jobs Foreigners Want

Australia JobsThe so-called “Land Down Under” is a major destination for workers looking for new opportunities, so Australian jobs are incredibly popular. In terms of its economy, Australia is both prosperous and influential — not only is it one of the world’s most industrialized countries, but it’s also one of the world’s most capitalist.

Australia is among the least densely populated on the planet, and its key industries are in services, technology, finance, and high-quality manufactured items. The country is also a world exporting leader in mining and agriculture. Taken together, it’s clear that Australia is one of the best places in the world for finding the jobs foreigners want.

Getting Australian Jobs for Foreigners

Australia actively encourages the immigration of skilled migrants to its shores to further boost its economy. Particularly if you’re under the age of 45, speak a vocational level English (minimum), and are qualified in one of the country’s numerous “priority” professions or trades, then finding one of these coveted Australian Jobs might be for you.

Skilled migration is possibly the best opportunity for foreigners to live and work in Australia. Like the UK system, the Australian work permit requires a points-based assessment. And its recently  introduced skilled worker program is called the Skilled Migrant Selection Register (SkillSelect), which requires you to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)in order to apply.

Under this new system, there are three primary classes of work permit for skilled workers to get Australian jobs:

  • Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189): This visa (provisionally for entrepreneurs) is designed for skilled workers who aren’t sponsored by an employer, a state or territory, or by family members. The Skilled Independent lets foreigners live and work permanently anywhere in Australia — it also allows you to include eligible family members. As a permanent visa, it means you can stay in Australia with full work rights as long as you want.
  • Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190):The Skilled Nominated permit is for skilled workers who have been nominated by a specific Australian state or territory. It allows holders to live and work permanently in Australia wherever they want, and can include eligible family members.
  • Skilled – Nominated or Sponsored Provisional (Subclass 489): The Skilled – Nominated or Sponsored Provisional is for skilled workers who’ve been nominated by an Australian state or territory or have sponsored by an Australian relative who’s eligible and resides in a designated area. It lasts for up to four years, and specifies that the visa holder lives and works in a particular regional area. Like the other work permit subclasses, the application can include eligible family members.

Note that all of these visas require you to meet certain age, health and character requirements. There is also a particular set of standards for skills and qualifications, and your job has to be on the relevant skilled occupation list.
